Time out for the economy
Let’s take a minute, my friends (no, this is not McCain speaking), to talk about the economy. Remember the economy? That vast system of buying and selling and getting paid for your work that keeps a roof over your head and food on your table? And your SUV on the road? Yeah, that thing that John McCain knows nothing about because his beer heiress wife keeps him sheltered in house #1, house #2, house#…, oh, who feels like counting? Anyway, my friends, how many houses can you count on while the economy tanks? That’s the point. Most of us don’t have the cushion that rich politicians have to weather an economic crisis. So why are we so obsessed with lipstick and who does the best Sarah Palin impersonation? I can’t see Russia or even Washington from my house, but I can see clearly that McCain-Palin don’t have a clue about how to fix the economy.
McCain “voted for abolishing all of the significant rules put in place at the time of the Great Depression designed to prevent a repeat,” Robert Sheer notes on Truthdig.com. Now McSame runs around the country saying the financial sky is falling and we need another commission to figure out how get the clouds back in place before he loses the prize he’s long wanted–the presidency. A friend of mine said it best the other day. In McCain’s world it’s “winning first, country second.”
In today’s New York Times David Leonhardt points out what Washington won’t–the meltdown on Wall Street didn’t happen overnight:
“The Bush administration, the Fed and Congress, meanwhile, continue to focus on the immediate crises, with little attention to the underlying reasons that the economy has gotten into this mess — a stagnation of incomes, an explosion of debt and a decidedly outdated, and limp, approach to government oversight. Remarkably, the presidential campaign has gotten less serious, while the economy’s problems have become more so.”
Yep, read the lips of the working people of America: “It’s the economy, stupid. Again.”

What’s the big deal? We’re all living in the same economy, right? Hehehe. I guess I shouldn’t joke around when you’re all worked up. Kidding aside, I’m very worried about the economy, too. It’s like our condo situation–only on a much larger scale. I’m frustrated, but there’s only so much that’s in my control.
For further bedtime reading, here’s a little history of McCain and the S&L Crisis that modern amnesia seems to have erased from our memories:
